Avowed Review

Alright, let’s talk about Avowed – the RPG from Obsidian Entertainment that has many fans excited! This game takes you into a world full of magic, sword fights and mystery. So, let’s break it down what makes it special.

First Impressions

Avowed welcomes you into a bright and lively world. the game is set in the Pillars of Eternity universe and offers a deep story with many interesting characters and conflicts. The world is full of colors and life making it a unique experience all on its own.

Gameplay

Now that the game is out, here is what we see:

  • First Person Combat: The fighting feels smooth and fun. You can use close-up attacks, ranged attacks and magic. Swinging a sword and magic attacks feel heavy and real. Moreover, you can block, dodge and counterattack which makes the battles more interesting and thoughtful. Sometimes, enemy moves can be a bit predictable.
  • Dual-wielding magic and weapons: You can cast spells with one hand while holding a weapon in the other hand. this lets you try different styles during battles. However, it would be nice to see more variety in the spells.
  • Choice-driven story: You choices really matter in Avowed. You meet many characters and make decisions that change the story. These choices affect how groups and people see you adding a lot of replay value.
  • A smaller but rich world: The game world is not very large but every area is full of details and stories. Each place feels different than other. Which is a big thing if you ask me.

What could be better?
Sometimes many enemies seem very similar which can make battles feel the same and boring after a while. Also, the spells system could use more options to let you change and improve your magic. The difficulty of fights can change a lot with some battles being too easy and others too hard.

The Story

Avowed story is one of its best parts. The game tells its tale in a deep and thoughtful way without giving away too much. Instead of revealing all the details, it invites you to discover the mysteries on your own. The writing is engaging, and the dialogue feels real. What I like most is that the story leaves plenty of room for you to make your own choices. These decisions shape your experience and give the game a personal touch. The twists and moral dilemmas keep you guessing, making every playthrough feel fresh and exciting. Overall, the narrative is both exciting and mysterious, drawing you in without spoiling the surprises waiting ahead.

Graphics & Visuals

One thing that stands out is how colorful Avowed looks. Instead of a dark and gloomy world, the game shows bright forests, glowing magic, and detailed scenes.

  • Environments: The design is very pretty with green forests, old ruins, and magical places. The light, weather, and reflections make the areas feel alive. However, some places look a little too similar.
  • Character models: The characters are made with care, showing unique armor and faces. Still, some non-player characters do not have much detail, and their moves can seem stiff.
  • Magic effects: The spells are bright and cool. Fire, lightning, and ice magic all have special effects, but a few spells could look more exciting.
  • UI & HUD Design: The game menus are simple and clear. The on-screen information is easy to read, though some parts of the interface could look nicer.

What could be better?
Some textures and animations seem a bit old, especially when you look close. A few areas might need more variety to feel truly unique. Also, the shadows and lighting are not always the same; some parts look great while others seem flat.

Final Thoughts

If you like a game with a deep story, choices that matter, and a world full of life, Avowed is worth trying. Even though its world is smaller, the story and gameplay makes the journey fun and exciting.
